Fractional / Pixel Laser Resurfacing

Co2Fraxel

At S.P.Derma Center we use the advanced Co2 ablative & Diode Pixel non ablative Fractional technology imported from Korea. Fractional technology is created by a computer pattern guided laser resurfacing resulting in a very precise and controlled skin damage. It assists in deeper skin rejuvenation treating wrinkles and scars with ease and shorter healing time than normal Co2 laser.

The difference between conventional Co2 laser resurfacing and Co2 fractional laser resurfacing is that, in traditional full-surface ablative Co2 laser, skin treatments are performed using a beam of intense laser energy that is passed over the entire skin surface to vaporize the entire top layer of skin. The damage to the tissue is extensive and takes significant time to heal and regrow a new top layer of skin.

The Fraxel Laser systems use a patented scanning technology to deliver laser pulses in tiny dots on the skin in a fractional pattern. Co2 Fraxel PixelThese microscopic laser beams penetrate more deeply into the skin than traditional CO2 lasers and vaporize tiny columns of tissue while leaving adjacent areas untreated next to each treated column. The skin which is normal surrounding the treated area starts growing faster and covers the damaged skin promoting faster healing and maintain skin integrity. This is the reason the healing is fast and far more comfortable than full surface CO2 laser procedures.

Diode Pixel

S.P.Derma Center uses both Ablative & Non Ablative Fractional Lasers. Ablative which is Co2 Fraxel vapourizes the columns of skin and Non Ablative which is Diode pixel coagulates column of skin.

Diode Pixel laser uses diode technology with a wavelength 1460nm which can coagulate deeper into the dermis without significant damage to the epidermis. This technology makes it a Non Ablative Fractional laser. When treating patients both Co2 Fraxel & Diode Pixel lasers are used to give the maximum benefit and excellent results.

Co2 Fraxel & Diode Pixel laser has the advantage of addressing the scar from the Epidermis and the Dermis resulting in a complete overall correction of the scar.

How does it feel during the treatment

Topical Anaesthetic is applied one hour prior to the procedure or injected which numb the area to be treated and makes the procedure relatively painless and acceptable. A slight pricking pain might be felt after the procedure for which analgesics are prescribed.

How many fractional laser skin treatments are needed?

The number of treatments necessary will depend on the condition being treated, and if it is an ablative or non-ablative procedure. It may take four or five non-ablative treatments to achieve the desired results, where most desired results can be realized in a single or two ablative treatment. Patients should consider how quick they would like to see results and how much downtime they are willing to experience when deciding on what type of treatments to have.

What symptoms are expected after treatment?

Immediately following the treatment, skin may be mildly red (erythema) and swollen (edema). These effects are normal, and indicate a successful treatment. Any swelling typically subsides within a day, and most redness dissipates within a few days. In Ablative Co2 Fraxel, light superficial bleeding and “oozing” may occur. As the redness and swelling subside, a brownish “bronzing” effect will become visible. The bronzing will fade over the next few days as new, healthy skin replaces the laser-treated tissue. Other side effects may include discharge, crusting or scaling, and milia these too typically resolve within one week.

What precautions must be followed after treatment?

For best results and to prevent complications, all patients should strictly follow their post-treatment care protocol. Cool, moist compresses applied immediately post-treatment may soothe the treated skin. A neutral, occlusive ointment may be applied until the skin re-epithelializes. Cool packs used after treatment may provide comfort, if necessary. Soaking and gentle cleansing may aid exfoliation as new tissue replaces old tissue. For two weeks following treatment, avoiding sun exposure is important.

How long will it take before being able to put on make-up, go to work, exercise, etc.?

With a fractional non-ablative treatment, there’s little to no downtime – most patients may resume their daily activities immediately or after only a couple days. For fractional ablative treatments, depending on the level of treatment provided, patients may be able to apply make-up and resume their normal schedule and activities within four days.
